As they always do, the fireworks last evening in Beijing ushered in the year of the dragon in spectacular fashion. Most businesses in China will be closed for this week as hundreds of millions of Chinese head home or to vacation spots to be with their family and loved ones over the Spring festival holiday.

In what has been called the largest annual human migration in the world, a total of 3.2 billion journeys will be taken over the 40-day period before and after the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Most people will travel by road, with some 2.8 billion trips expected during the annual “spring rush.” About 235 million trips will be made on trains, 34.9 trips will be made by air, while an estimated 43.5million people will travel by boat.

Whether you are traveling or spending a quiet week at home, MTD would like to wish all of its readers a happy and prosperous New Year.
